Enrich soil, stimulate root development, suppress weeds and prevent erosion
DTE™ 100% Natural Compost is built for amending garden soils, creating your own potting mix or making beneficial compost teas and extracts. Adding generous amounts of organic matter to vegetable gardens and flower beds helps build soil structure, improves moisture retention and promotes more productive fruits, vegetables and flowers. Our compost does not contain any municipal yard wastes like grass clippings or leaves and is free of any herbicide or pesticide residues commonly found in commercial composts.
Composted Forest Products, Composted Bark, Composted Dairy Manure, Kelp Meal
and Oyster Shell (for pH adjustment).
Seed Starting & Potting Mixes:
Use up to 20% compost blended with additional growing mediums (e.g. coir fiber, peat moss, perlite or diatomite) for indoor and outdoor containers. Mix thoroughly and add water to desired moisture content.
Before seeding new lawns spread a 2″ layer compost over entire planting area and thoroughly mix into the top 4-6″ of soil. For existing lawns, apply a 1/2″ layer in the spring and fall and gently work into the soil surface using a lawn rake. For best results, remove as much dead grass thatch as possible and aerate before application.
Vegetable Gardens & Flower Beds:
Spread a 2″ deep layer of compost onto garden or flower beds when preparing for planting and mix into the top 4-6 inches of soil. When transplanting, add directly into
the root zone and apply as a top dress. Add additional 1″ layers throughout the growing season to nourish plants and provide moisture retention.
Trees, Shrubs & Ornamentals:
Add up to 50% compost as backfill when transplanting new bare root, ball and burlap or container plants. Dig a hole large enough for the plants root system and blend compost with the removed soil. Water in well and add a 1-2″ layer of compost as mulch around base of new plant or tree. Add additional 1″ layers throughout the growing season to nourish plants and provide moisture retention.
Compost can be used to prepare a simple compost extract OR for maximum
results, an actively aerated compost tea (AACT).
To prepare a simple extract, simply let 1 cup of compost steep in 1 gallon water for up to 3 days. Dilute and apply as a soil drench. Be sure to use all of the liquid once it is prepared.
To prepare AACT, follow the directions on your compost tea system, dilute the concentrated tea and apply as a foliar spray or soil drench. Be sure to use all of the liquid once it is prepared.
