Promotes aeration, drainage and water retention

Down To Earth’s Coconut Coir is an all-natural, eco-friendly peat alternative made from coconut husks. This coconut coir fiber is a compressed, all purpose medium-shredded fiber and pith blend that makes an excellent addition to potting mixes to provide structure. It is an excellent amendment for all types of potting media, from seed starting to large containers, because it promotes optimal aeration and drainage and can hold up to 10 times its own weight in water. It is ideal for worm bins, compost piles, hanging baskets and garden soils.

Breaking coir brick into smaller pieces will increase the speed of saturation and ease of use. Submerge material in enough water to cover, and allow to soak for 30 minutes.  Stir and mash to assure that all dry material is separated and saturated. Add more water if necessary.

One compressed Brick will yield approximately 2.5 gallons of ready-to-use coir fiber.

One compressed Bale will yield approximately 30 gallons of ready-to-use coir fiber.

Coconut Coir Fiber performs best when combined with other soil amendments such as compost, bark, perlite, etc.
